Product Trade Name
GlassPhalt
Product Description
GlassPhalt is mixed from a no-free-silica, durable, chemically inert and granular glass particle. It is manufactured from 100% post-consumer, recycled bottle glass. GlassPhalt delivers superior performance relative to mineral/slag. GlassPhalt contains Gilsonite and no free silica, is non-toxic and contains no heavy metals.
Application
GlassPhalt is the new environmentally friendly and cost effective pothole fix that provides a viable alternative to traditional pothole fixes. Made from recycled glass, it doesn't involve intrusive mining and the use of scarce resources.
Advantages
GlassPhalt has the all the green credentials, and with its superior performance it is also cost effective against traditional pothole fixes.
Glassphalt is a product where weather has no effect in the use of it and where whet or damp conditions are of no concern
It can be stored up to 6 months under normal room conditions.
Not only is there a saving on labour and equipment costs but also a 30% improvement in sealing applications over traditional products due to the angular to sub-angular particle shape and bound silica content and higher stability of Gilsonite that provides.
GlassPhalt and the Environment
Because GlassPhalt is manufactured from recycled bottle glass, it contains no free silica which is commonly found in some aggregates. The use of post-consumer glass directly benefits the environment by diverting waste from landfills to a useful service delivery product. RWGP is free of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, asbestos, beryllium, titanium, etc.
When compared to regular aggregates, the efficiency and cold manufacturing process will also result in a reduction of electrical power required, lower the amount of carbon emissions sent into our environment.
Health & Safety
Recycled crushed glass contains no crystalline silica providing better lung protection for media handlers.
Crushed glass grains are smooth, amorphous particles with higher attrition strength, and they do not permanently trap bacteria in cracks.
Gilsonite has excellent health safety characteristics. In fact, Gilsonite products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in resinous and polymeric coatings that come into direct contact with food. Gilsonite falls under Section §175.300 (formerly Section §121.2514) of the FDA regulations, Part 3, subpart (iv), which lists Gilsonite as one of several approved natural resins.
Gilsonite products are non- carcinogenic, non-mutagenic, and non-toxic. Details can be found in the OSHA Materials Safety Data Sheets for Gilsonite products.
Health safety has become a most important factor in the selection of resinous products. More restrictive regulations Worldwide now make it necessary to label products that contain resins with poor or marginal health safety properties. Certain resins and bituminous fractions that are derived from petroleum and coal now can only be used with proper hazard labeling. Gilsonite is a valuable, no-label, alternative to these hazardous products.
Gilsonite in its unaltered state is non-carcinogenic, non- mutagenic, and non-toxic by recognized test procedures, which include the modified Ames assay test, chronic feeding studies for the National Toxicology Program (NTP), and NIOSH protocols. It has also been documented by the State of Utah that long-term exposure to Gilsonite, especially dust, does not contribute to dermatitis, lung disease, or any other disease. However, it is recommended that dust masks or respirators be used in long-term exposure situations.

Specifications for use
Gilsonite in Glassphalt & Bitumen
Gilsonite Natural Asphalt, Natural Bitumen, Hard Asphalt or Hard Asphaltum is used as a performance-enhancing agent for asphalt mixes. Gilsonite-modified paving mixes achieve higher PG grades and incorporate perfectly into the asphalt blend with no need for high shear milling as is the case with many other modifiers.
Gilsonite can partially or totally replace, or complement, the use of SBS polymers in modified asphalts at a fraction of the cost. Gilsonite-modified asphalts have higher stability, reduced deformation, reduced temperature susceptibility and increased resistance to water stripping than non-modified asphalts. Gilsonite is also used to make both solvent-based and emulsion pavement sealers with superior appearance and weathering properties.
