Product Trade Name: Indlovu Sebenza EnviroGrit Filtration Media
Product Description: EnviroGrit Filtration Media is a no-free-silica, durable, chemically inert and granular glass particle. It is manufactured from 100% post-consumer, recycled bottle glass. EGFM delivers superior performance relative to mineral/slag abrasives. EGFM contains no free silica, is non-toxic and inert and contains no heavy metals.
EGFM and the Environment: Because EGFM is manufactured from recycled bottle glass, it contains no free silica which is commonly found in blasting sand. The use of post-consumer glass directly benefits the environment by diverting waste from landfills. EGFM is free of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, asbestos, beryllium, titanium, etc.
When compared to regular sand, EnviroGrit as filtration media can save up to 25% of water through more efficient backwashing. This is due to the larger spaces between the particles which allows for more efficient water flow. This efficiency will also result in a reduction of electrical power required, lowing the amount of carbon emissions sent into our environment.

Application: Glass Filter Media (GFM) is the new environmentally friendly and cost effective filter media that provides a viable alternative to sand. Made from recycled glass, it doesn't involve intrusive mining and the use of scarce resources.
Advantages: EGFM has the green credentials, and with its superior performance is also cost effective against sand.
EGFM is more efficient
Saving on backwashing and the resultant water, energy and chemical treatment costs.
It is less susceptible to bio-fouling as, unlike silica sand EGFM particles have a smoother surface, so bacteria cannot get trapped in any cracks or flaws, which means less remedial action and again less chemical treatment to destroy pollutants.(See Microscopic images below.)
EGFM requires less material: It is less dense than sand, requiring 15% less media to fill the equivalent filter.

Health Benefits: Sand Filters are known to house many potentially harmful varieties of bacteria, one of the most common forms being Legionella. Tests prove that regular sand filters provide a breeding ground for such bacteria to thrive in. The smooth unique surface of EGFM discourages bacteria from attaching itself to the glass. This results in a healthier filter tank that is safer for humans.
EGFM doesn't degrade: It therefore has a longer life span and may not need changing even when the filters are due for refurbishment.
EGFM Grades: EGFM is available in three grades of media. All grades are milled down and are sharp free.
Grade 1 - is the filtration media
(0.3mm - 1.0mm )

Grade 2 – act as support media
(1.0mm - 2.0mm)

Grade 3 – Pea Gravel
(2.0mm - 5.0mm)

Safer to Use: Recycled crushed glass filter media contains no crystalline silica providing better lung protection for media handlers.
Crushed glass grains are smooth, amorphous particles with a higher attrition strength, and they do not permanently trap bacteria in cracks.
Direct Replacement for Silica Sand Filtration Media: EnviroGrit Filtration Media can be used for swimming pools and spas, water theme parks, industrial waste water effluent, gray water recirculation systems, car wash recirculation systems, storm water runoff, boiler feed and cooling tower systems….just about any filtration application which uses silica sand.
Crushed glass filtration media provides superior cleaning, lower operating costs, and is safer to use.
Cost Benefits: There are many long term cost benefits associated with EGFM. Because of its higher efficiency, there is a noticeable reduction of chemicals and precious sanitisers required to keep your pool clean. This also means fewer chemicals are being sent to waste. EGFM is less degradable than sand and zeolite outlasting its competitors by up to 3 times.
